The history of Riva 1920 started that year in Cantù, the “city of wood” in the heart of Italy, from a small family-run artisan workshop specialized in the production of solid wood furniture.
Today Riva 1920 is a name of the highest importance in the field of furniture, thanks to the continuous commitment and entrepreneurial intuition of the Riva family, which led the company towards an important technological and stylistic evolution, starting new collaborations with famous designers and architects and orienting production towards the world of sustainable design.
After a century, the motivating thought that drives every action and decision of this company remains unchanged: “Producing with honesty to pass on to future generations, building furniture that can challenge time while fully respecting the environment”.
In the year of its centenary, Riva 1920 chose to focus on a young Italian talent, the designer Giovanni Tomasini, to launch a brand new collection of cedar wood seatings. Giovanni Tomasini has designed four stools and a bench, furnishings able to satisfy every taste: Slalom, Rotterdam, Diamond, Notre Dame and Dolmen, all made of solid Lebanese cedar wood, that is obtained as a single piece from a whole log of a tree.
Thanks to his talent but also to his hard daily commitment, he has earned his place in the pantheon of Riva designers, together with world starchitects and milestones of Italian design of the caliber of Alessandro Mendini, Elio Fiorucci, Enzo Mari, Fabio Novembre, Karim Rashid, Philippe Starck, Renzo Piano, Michele De Lucchi and others among the best ever.
The refined collection of solid cedar pieces is the flagship of the company, all completely natural and finished by hand without the addition of any treatment. The cedar of Lebanon is an evergreen conifer whose wood is characterized by an heady strongly balsamic scent, given off by the resin which also has a natural anti-moth effect.
