Grillo

universal design

About the Project

Grillo is a light and a dynamic chair, designed according to the principles of “Design for All”. Grillo chair is an ergonomic and versatile object, conceived to be usable from the widely possible range of people, with heterogeneous temporary or permanent physical disease. Grillo will change shape to better adapt to person’s individual needs and to support everyday difficulties. The “Design for All” also known as “Universal Design”, is based on a modern concept, linked to a wide-ranging design methodology which involves architectural, urban and the design of the products. That could be accessible to every kind of person, beyond the possible presence of disability conditions (handicap). The best “Design for All” is also the one that blend these basic concepts of universal design, with a pleasant and modern aesthetic; through this approach, the products have “equal dignity” and value, without discriminate themselves or being limited in the formal perception. The aesthetic chosen for this chair is simple and linear, with the explicit intent of tracing the familiar image of a folding chair... but with something more! Grillo is a folding chair that once fully opened, is dynamic and slender, while partially closed it becomes a compact stool. When closed it gains the maximum compactness, turning the chair into a thin trolley, equipped with wheels, ball bearings and an ergonomic handle.

Maximum usability

The aesthetic chosen for this chair is simple and linear, with the explicit intent of tracing the familiar image of a folding chair... but with something more! Grillo is a folding chair that when fully open, is dynamic and slender, while partially closed it becomes instead a compact stool. The maximum compactness is obtained with the totally closed chair, which turns into a thin trolley, with wheels equipped with ball bearings and ergonomic handle.
